Flare Home Security Reviews – A Small Device, A Large Vulnerability

Flare is an all-in-one home security device that is shaped like a UFO. It is made by BuddyGuard, a company that aims to create intelligent home security. They launched Flare on Kickstarter and it currently has about a month left before the crowd-funding campaign ends. As a very new home security company with very little experience, there is not much feed back out there for how well it works. However, do you really want to be the test subject for home security? Let’s take a closer look.

Flare Will Leave You Vulnerable

Flare is a self-monitored device, meaning you will need to act upon a notification of intrusion. Unmonitored systems, however, are considered a major vulnerability. Having a professionally monitored system provides a much higher level of security. Only monitored systems come with 24-hour surveillance by a professional security team. With unmonitored systems, you’re largely on your own as far as responding to an intrusion. Consider using a monitored home security system from Protect America.

Monitored systems save precious time dispatching help at the exact moment of intrusion. For example, when your home gets broken into, the Flare device sends you a message notifying you via your smart phone application. You’re busy at work and eventually check your phone an hour later. By this time, your home has been burglarized and your pets or family have been put at risk. Monitored systems will send the police, fire department, or paramedics directly to your home after evaluating the existing condition. Consider Protect America, where we secure and monitor all the windows, all the doors, and all other areas of your home – that’s how effective security works. Protect America provides all the help; get the equipment and resources you need to easily secure your home.

Cost and Features

The Flare device comes with a multitude of features all in a single device – all for about 245 Euros or close to $300. The voice and facial recognition technology is undoubtedly intriguing. There’s a motion sensor, HD camera, microphone, siren, speaker, temperature sensor, and more for monitoring one’s home conditions. Flare has a home security camera that turns on when you leave, then turns off when you arrive home. AI is used for detecting faces and one’s own pets. There’s also audio analysis for monitoring for noises you might hear during a burglary (a door being kicked in, for example). You can add and delete contacts in the device as well. Another interesting feature is Flare will play domestic noises to create the effect of an occupied home. However, Flare is missing the conventional aspects of a home security system. It’s missing:

Flare claims that a single device can protect a large enough area for the system to be successful. Do you really want a device the size of a coaster protecting your entire home? Do not choose this security system if you own a larger dwelling than a studio apartment or if your home contains multiple entry points. While Flare might be viable for a small apartment, a single family home starts to exceed the functions of this device. It’s minimal and cheap, offering limited security qualities. The founders of Flare have aimed to market this system to the masses, but does one size really fit all?

Experience is Key

While Flare could be promising, there simply isn’t enough feedback to know just yet. On the other hand, Protect America has over 20 years of experience in the home security industry. We’ve secured over 500,000 homes in all 50 states and Canada to date, we’re rated #1 by BestHomeSecurityCompanys.com, and we’ve been rated a Consumers Digest Best Buy for the last five years. Combined with world-class customer care and you can see why Protect America is the best choice for home security.

Home security is not just being able to protect your home; it’s about being able to protect your life. Our systems easily add fire and smoke protection, carbon monoxide detectors, medical panic alerts, and more. We make it easy to customize and fit your alarm system to your home and family’s needs.
